Franklin Baker’s coconut-based products are used by every major food corporation in need of the Philippine Islands-grown fruit. Desiccated, toasted, sweetened and value-added coconut are used for food applications such as, but not limited to, confections, cereals, pastries, cakes, desserts and baked goods.

White Rock Distilleries has owned the Pinnacle Vodka brand since 2003. However, before 2007, the Lewiston, Maine-based company focused its efforts on developing Three Olives Vodka, while Pinnacle in effect watched from the sidelines. When White Rock owner and CEO Paul Coulombe sold Three Olives to Proximo that year, he turned White Rock’s attention to Pinnacle, which already had experienced some organic growth. Since that decision, the brand has grown five-fold, and its fast success has caused others to pay attention, as well.

A lot has changed in the natural/organic grocery business since New Leaf Community Market opened its first 3,000-square-foot store in a converted warehouse in a mixed residential/light industrial area of Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1985. Scott Roseman was working at the cooperative grocery while attending the University of California at Santa Cruz when in 1984, he offered to buy its assets. It had been operating for 13 years before that as a cooperative.

For some, the names of AHD International LLC’s offerings may not be immediately familiar, but the final products that they are used in are quite common and easily recognizable. Based in Atlanta, the company is a natural ingredient supplier that is on the “cutting edge” of the food and beverage marketplace, says Steve Gallo, general manager of AHD’s food and beverage ingredient division.

For decades, certain categories of mushrooms have had to fight off the stigma of being an exotic addition to luxurious entrees at high-end restaurants. With consumers committing to healthy food choices across a variety of segments, Ostrom Mushroom and the rest of the mushroom industry is hoping to make high-end mushrooms a staple with as much everyday appeal as the potato.
